In 2013
Landman started collecting odd modulation stomp boxes that function as rhythm
creators and looping sounds coming from a wide range of electronic sound
circuits, motorized instruments, kalimbas, steel on foam, amped soda pop
bottles, string instruments, on the spot found objects and his long string
instrument.
Rythmic
bleeps, bloops and other funny sounds.
Technical requirements: 4 meter of tables & 1 stairs (for the installment of the long string instrument), 2 monitors (in case a drummer is involved).
Performances
have been done in NL, GE, BE, FR, ES, PT, IT, PL, FI, EE, LV, GB w/ several
artists such as Anna Barie (ex-These Are Powers), Martin Boeters (Swearing at
Motorists), Jake Burton (Action Beat), Britt Avelon Tan (ex-Eva Braun) and
others.
Dutch noise
rock act Those Foreign Kids did two tours with YL through IT, CH, FR & NL.
Most of the time this performance takes place in combination
with one of the workshops, particularly the Home Swinger workshop. However it is
also possible to book this project as a stand alone event. YL has built 6
mini-sized Home Swingers that allow him to travel within his suitcase. The
performance requires at least 9 trained, local musicans to form the orchestra.
One drummer (but preferable two), one bass player, two guitar players and six
string players for the home swingers. YL teaches the team two compositions four
hours in advance of the 40 min performance. During the performance YL conducts
the piece and he plays the solos in the compositions.
Technical requirements: 7 meter of tables, 1 drum kit, 4
Fender Twins, 1 Bass amp (or a DI when there is a PA installation), 1 stairs
(for the instalment of the long string instrument).
Orchestra performances have taken place in NL, BE, FR, ES,
CH, AU, GE, DK, SV, FI, LV, RU, UK & US.
Musical duo
performance with Wessel Westerveld (http://www.wexel.nl)
Wessel
Westerveld is an experimental instrument builder from Enschede NL. He has built
a series of motorized machines that create industrial repetitive noise and he
has built replicas and alternate versions of Luigi RussoloÕs infamous
Intonorumori. YL & WW have developed a musical performance of ± 40 minutes
for the Tuned City Festival in Brussels June 2013. This was later on also
performed on other locations in NL, BE and GE.
Technical
requirements: 10 meter of tables, 1 stairs (for the instalment of the long
string instrument).
In August 2013 Landman did a 30 minute performance with the
Liverpool act Ex-Easter Island Head and multiple electric Kalimba players.
Benjamin Duvall of E-EIH and YL both wrote a score for these instruments. BenÕs
piece was in the spirit of Steve ReichÕs compositions, while YLÕs piece was a
bit more abrasive rocking.
Technical requirements: 7 meter of tables, 1 drum kit, 4
Fender Twins, 1 Bass amp (or a DI when there is a PA installation), 1 stairs
(for the instalment of the long string instrument).
